Resonate 2008 FAQ

Who?

This is a gathering designed for worship leaders from BGC churches including new church plants.

What?

3 Day retreat with time for learning, relaxing and worshipping together with other worship leaders.

Why?

The purpose of this conference is Refreshment, Resourcing, Relationship.  We want every worship leader to be able to take a little break from being in charge, and enjoy the beautiful mountains – Refreshed!  We want every worship leader to come back with some new teaching and sources for new material recommended by others in the trenches – Resourced!  We want every worship leader to go home with a deeper walk with God, and some friendships with other real life worship leaders to call on for ideas, feedback and encouragement – Relationship.  Behind it all is the firm belief that we are stronger together as a family, a team, a network than we are each individually!

How?

Simply spending time together with other worship leaders in the beautiful mountains will go a long way towards accomplishing those goals.  Most of the sessions will be group discussions led by people from our own group.  We have great talent in our own churches in various specialties and we hope to tap into that for all of our benefit.  We may even have some input from the New Life staff, but that will be icing on the cake, not the main course.

When?

April 7-9th, 2008  (more detailed schedule below)

=Two weeks after Easter (March 23rd) (Great time to get rejuvenated!)

Where?

Topic Ideas
Written by Jason Chollar
Thursday, 28 February 2008

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time to start getting more detailed about
what we want to focus on during our time together at Resonate.

Here are a bunch of ideas that I have brainstormed together.
Take a look and tell me which topics you really want to make sure we
cover and let me know if you have other ideas you'd like to dig into.
Who would teach on these sessions?  We will!  This is not a huge
conference with a famous expert lecturing to hundreds of attendees.
This will be a time for lots of interaction with all of us bringing
the very best of what God has taught us and sharing it with one
another.
I don't mean to overuse the phrase, but this is a list of topics that
resonate with me and I would be happy to share with you about.
What might God be asking you to share?
_______

Topic Ideas for Resonate 2008 Sessions

Hands-on workshop ideas – live demos

•       Mixing/Sound System basics
•       Drums/Keys/Bass/Guitar Basics, each in 10 minutes or less
•       Music theory: understanding chords and their functions
•       Using click tracks, drum loops, … with Ableton Live
•       Coordinating your team with PlanningCenterOnline
•       Using Video Background Loops behind your words in EasyWorship
•       The drums are too loud! – Solutions!
•       Crowd participation strategies: Engaging the Congregation
•       How can I get more people to sing?!
•       Recruiting and audition strategies
•       …..?

Deeper Thinking

•       Who is the audience?  Worship versus Entertainment-Who are we trying
to please?
•       Worship Jukebox – Randomly choose songs? Is there any plan?
•       Heritage versus Future: Bridging the Generation Gap
•       Volume, Style and Emotions in the scriptures
•       Worship and Justice
•       Worship and Evangelism
•       Is writing your own songs a waste of time?
•       Are motion loops and other visuals distracting or enhancing?
•       …..?
Times of Worship & Sharing

•       Worship time with our new favorite songs

•       Group Share-a-thon: top 5 resources (websites, books, CD's, …)
•       Group SongWriting Session (let's write a song together while in the
mountains!)

Coaching
Last year we had some great coaching sessions where we were able to
pick a question and learn to coach one another.  We might try this
again too.

Tour of New Life Church and New Life School of Worship
We will be meeting at New Life Church which has a top notch modern
sanctuary and an in house "School of Worship" internship program that
graduated 46 full time students last year.  It is also the home of
Ross Parsley and the Desperation Band (which includes Jared Anderson,
Glen Packiam, Matthew Fallentine) with songs such as "Rescue", "Beauty
of the Lord" and "Your Name" (co-written by Paul Baloche). I've been
informed that most of those guys (all Associate Worship Pastors at New
Life, and the instructors of the school of worship) are going to be
right in the middle of recording a studio project, so we probably
won't get much interaction with them.
Still, I've been assured of a "Knock Your Socks Off" tour, and I'm
sure it will be informative and fun.

Don't forget to send me some feedback!
